Hornby’s model of the striking ‘A4’ Pacific provides a stand-out model to start or expand a journey into TT:120 scale. Replicating one of the most recognisable steam locomotive classes built, Hornby’s Gresley ‘A4’ 4-6-2 is now available in an early 1950s guise complete with Bluetooth Triplex Sound. Buy now from the Key Model World Shop for £200.99 (RRP £218.99).
The Gresley ‘A4’ 4-6-2s were introduced in 1935 with striking art-deco streamlining and the locomotives became synonymous as the premier motive power of the London North Eastern Railway. A class renowned for speed, the latest addition for TT:120 scale from Hornby replicates one of the first four ‘A4s’ constructed as 60016 Silver King, recalling the heyday of steam powered expresses on the 1950s East Coast Mainline (ECML) carrying the smart BR lined green of the period.
The locomotive perfectly captures the distinctive streamline shroud and BR specific details, including removed valances, non-corridor tender and single chimney. Internally, the model features a Next18 decoder socket that is pre-fitted with a 15mm x 11mm cube speaker and Hornby’s new Triplex Sound (TXS) Bluetooth-controlled DCC decoder in the tender. Suitable for the 1950s (era 4) this release of 60016 is a perfect ECML expansion to The Easterner trainset, Hornby’s range of BR ‘A3’ and ‘A4’ locomotives and also perfect for use with Hornby’s super detailed Pullmans, BR Mk1s in crimson cream and forthcoming Gresley Teak range of carriages.
