Hornby’s LNER 'J50' 0-6-0T is the must-have locomotive type for shunting and light goods on an Eastern Region layout in TT:120 scale. Accurately portraying these chunky Gresley-designed locomotives, it is available now.

The Gresley-designed 'J50' totaled 102 locomotives with variations in the brakes, driving position, boilers and bunkers. They were allocated across the LNER and BR Eastern Region from Scotland to London for use in shunting and light goods work.

Construction started in 1922 and by 1926 the 'J50' was a group standard type with further batches being built. They continued in service through the grouping era (1923-1947) and as nationalisation in 1948 transferred to British Railways Eastern Region. Withdrawal started in 1958 with the last being retired in 1963, though six continued in departmental service until 1965. None have been preserved.

68965 was built at Doncaster Works and entered service in 1926. It started as 1069 and became 8965 at the 1946 renumbering before becoming 68965 in 1948 when it joined the BR stock roster. During its career it was allocated to Immingham, Frodingham, Doncaster, Mirfield and Ardsley sheds prior to withdrawal in 1963.

Hornby's LNER 'J50' 0-6-0T for 'TT:120' scale is a highly detailed replica of these compact and powerful locomotives. It carries BR black with late crests on the tank sides.

Construction includes injection moulded body parts while inside there is a 6-pin DCC decoder socket and a smooth running coreless motor to power the 0-6-0T.
