12T Tank Wagon 'Fisons Sulphuric Acid' No. 31 - Era 2/3
As some of the most colourful wagons to run on Britain’s railways, tankers are inherently popular. Forming an exciting addition to Horny’s growing range of TT:120 freight wagons, these 12-ton tank wagons have a broad appeal for any model railway. Available to buy now from the Key Model World Shop for £22.99 (RRP £25.49).
Constructed to transport a range of liquid commodities, both innocuous and flammable, tank wagons of the 1920s and 30s took a distinctive shape very different to other mineral and ventilated vans. With tankers being built and owned independently by companies, even throughout the British Railways period, and were renowned for colourful sign-written liveries.
The 12-ton tank wagon is an important addition to Hornby’s new TT:120 freight range, featuring a very high level of moulded and separately fitted metal details. The separate detail of the tanks remains clearly visible on this release, decorated with the vibrant turquoise of the hazardously named Fisions Sulphuric Acid, with fine white lettering cleanly applied. As with other private owner wagons, this tanker is suited to a layout of any region in Britain between the 1920s and 1940s (eras 2/3).
A stand-out freight rolling stock addition to the TT:120 range, this common yet important tanker is a must for a steam-era model railway. Ideal for use with Hornby’s era 2 and 3 rolling stock, the universal appeal of 12-ton tank wagons suit a model railway of any size.
