The ‘A3’ class 4-6-2s were originally Gresley’s famed ‘A1’ introduced in 1922 but were gradually converted with during the 1930s and 1940s to improve steaming and efficiency. Alongside famed class member Flying Scotsman, the A3s were a staple of the East Coast Main Line into the early 1960s and the new addition for TT:120 scale from Hornby replicates 60078 Night Hawk in British Railways lined green with early emblem, single chimney and GNR tender.
The locomotive is finely detailed, with accurate details for an early BR ‘A3’ and high-quality printed detail, including BR emblem used until the late-1950s. Internally, the model is pre-fitted with Hornby’s game-changing Triplex Sound (TXS) Sound Bluetooth decoder via a Next18 decoder socket in the tender together with a 15mm x 11mm cube speaker, making it ready for use with realistic sound with wireless control.
