Designed for the West Coast Mainline, the fifty class 50 locomotives were built by English Electric and introduced from 1967 on the West Coast Mainline. The powerful 100mph Type 4s faced successive redeployments and served both the Western and South Western regions of BR. Carrying many colourful liveries until withdrawal in 1994, the popular class continue to operate in large numbers on heritage and main lines today.

Officially named ‘Hercules’, 50007 was repainted to mark the 150th anniversary of the GWR and is depicted by Hornby carrying the name ‘Sir Edward Elgar’ in a unique lined green livery (era 8).

Internally the locomotive features a Next18 DCC decoder socket factory fitted with a Hornby Triplex Sound Bluetooth decoder and a 15mm x 11mm cube speaker.

Hornby’s TT:120 class 50 is highly detailed with separately fitted parts and etched metal detailing and is the perfect companion to the Mk2 carriages and HSTs currently in development by Hornby.
