Built at English Electric’s Vulcan Works in 1965, this locomotive entered traffic as D6954. It was renumbered to 37254 under BR’s TOPS system in 1974. It was eventually named Cardiff Canton in recognition of its long association with the depot. Following withdrawal in 1999, it was bought and restored by members of the 37254 Locomotive Group at the Spa Valley Railway.

It was painted in retro InterCity ‘Swallow’ livery and given red Driver Robin Prince M.B.E. nameplates in 2013, the condition in which the model is presented. It has since returned to the main line and is currently operational with Colas Rail.

Internally the locomotive features a Next18 DCC decoder socket and space for a 15mm x 11mm cube speaker. Hornby’s TT:120 Class 37 is highly detailed and is the perfect companion to the modern image passenger freight rolling stock.
