One of the most widespread types of tanker to run on Britain’s railways, the TTA forms an exciting addition to Hornby’s growing range of TT:120 freight wagons. Important to any modeller of the diesel era, the TTA tank wagons have a broad appeal for any layout. Available to buy now from the Key Model World Shop.

Designed in the 1960s to supersede ageing types of tank wagons, the TTA constituted a standardised design that would continue in frontline service into the mid-2000s. Constructed to transport a range of mainly flammable types of liquid, the TTA continued the trend of tankers being owned and run for independent companies by British Rail and could often be seen in very short or long block trains.

The TTA tank wagon is an important addition to Hornby’s TT:120 freight range, with this example decorated in the instantly recognisable bright green livery of BP, numbered as BPO 37182. Suited to the 1990s and early 2000s (eras 8/9), the model features fine walkway detail and separately fitted pipework, while the legible warning label detail further enhances the model.

A stand-out item of freight rolling stock, tank wagons that convey hazardous liquids always prove popular and the TTA is a must for any British Rail-era model railway. One of the more modern liveries carried by TTAs, the wagons are ideal for use behind Hornby’s TT:120 class 66 locomotives, or equally with an 08 shunter on a shunting puzzle.
