Exclusive Cavalex Models DCR Class 56 arrives

Key Publishing's new exclusive 'OO' gauge model of DCRail operated Class 56 56103 has arrived from Cavalex Models with pre-orders being processed from March 4 2026.

The new release comes with the second batch of Cavalex Models Class 56s with upgrades including repositioning of the bogie pivot centres, improvement of the kinematic coupling and new LED lighting features to correctly model the modern lighting fitted to 56103.

56103 is modelled in its 2024 onwards condition, as operated by DCRail on aggregates trains across the network. It returned to service in this condition in May 2024 when it worked double-headed with on-hire Class 56 56098 from Chaddesden Sidings-Middleton Towers and return.

Details specific to 56103 include the split handrails on the cab front, high-intensity headlight, correct round and flat handrails at each door on the bodyside and correct LED lighting for the locomotive. It is available both DCC ready and DCC sound fitted - the latter equipped with a LokSound V5 sound decoder featuring Cavalex Models bespoke Class 56 sound profile.

Prices are set at £189.95 DCC ready and £289.95 DCC sound fitted. There is also the option to order the model with the official Cavalex Models sound pack for £309.95.

Remaining stock expected is available now with limited availability of DCC ready and DCC Ready + ESU Soundpack versions left.
